24th Annual
KIDS FISHING FESTIVAL

Saturday, July 30th, 2011

8am to noon

Snowcreek Ponds on Old Mammoth Rd, Mammoth Lakes

The 24th Annual Kids Fishing Festival will return on Saturday, July 30 to the Snowcreek Ponds on Old Mammoth Road in Mammoth Lakes. Locally famous Alpers trophy trout will be stocked in these beautiful high Sierra ponds with bright 14-15 inch trout. This popular event is FREE for kids 14 and under and will run from 8:00 – 12:00. Rods and reels will be provided (or you can bring your own).

Fishing guides from the Eastern Sierra Fishing Guides Association will be assisting and teaching fly casting and catch-and-release techniques. Kids can learn to tie flies and have their own customized lures made with their names on them.

Fisheries staff from the California Department of Fish and Game (DFG) will be available to lend a hand and teach the children a little bit about California’s trout fisheries. Every child will receive their own California Fishing Passport and fish identification book. Catch a fish and get special passport stamps in your book! A beautiful trout aquarium, provided by Hot Creek Hatchery, will be on display and loaded with fish. DFG is also bringing their popular “Fishing in the City” Program to teach kids about the joys of fishing. These wonderful volunteers will bring the loaner rods and reels and teach casting techniques. New this year and also from DFG will be a trailer filled with taxidermy fish and wildlife to introduce the kids to their Game Warden Recruitment Program. Kids will be able to do free laser shots.

The Arts Council will have a t-shirt painting booth where kids can make trout imprints as a remembrance of their experience. There will be a giant 5 foot trout that the kids can chalk up. And when each child registers, they will receive a raffle ticket with a chance to win numerous fun prizes throughout the day!

This annual event is fun for the entire family and brings the whole community of Mammoth Lakes together. The Lions Club supplies free coffee and donuts. And the Mammoth Fire Department will be assisting. It’s an event not to be missed!

The Festival is sponsored by Mono Council for the Arts and the Eastern Sierra Fishing Guides Association.
